Former Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles, was detained on his birthday

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, brother of King Charles III, has been detained by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to the BBC. The arrest, which coincided with his 66th birthday, follows a complaint alleging that he shared confidential government material with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Police confirmed that “a man in his sixties from Norfolk” was taken into custody and that searches are underway at properties in Berkshire and Norfolk. While the suspect was not officially named, documents released in the United States suggest Andrew shared sensitive information with Epstein between 2010 and 2011, including details of official trade visits and investment opportunities.

The former Duke of York, who served as the UK’s trade envoy from 2001 to 2011, has previously denied accusations linked to Epstein. He stepped back from public life in 2019 amid mounting scrutiny of their friendship and reached a multimillion-pound settlement in 2022 with Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual abuse.

Authorities emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity of the investigation and promised further updates in due course.
