A Landmark Event Celebrating 25 Years of AU–EU Partnership

The Summit Begins Today — Follow It Live Online

The 7th African Union – European Union Summit officially opened today, 24 November 2025, in Luanda, Angola, bringing together Heads of State and Government, regional organizations, and international partners for one of the most significant diplomatic events of the year.

The Summit marks 25 years of the AU–EU partnership and coincides with 50 years of Angola’s independence, underscoring Luanda’s growing role as a regional and global diplomatic hub.

The event is co-chaired by:

• H.E. João Lourenço, President of Angola

• H.E. António Costa, President of the European Council

With high-level participation from:

• Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission

• H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission

Agenda and Priorities

Over two days, leaders will focus on strengthening cooperation between Africa and Europe in the following priority areas:

Peace, Security and Governance

• Review of EU missions deployed in Africa

• Enhanced collaboration on conflict prevention, counter-terrorism, and regional stability

• Joint work within major multilateral bodies, including the UN and G20

Prosperity, People, Migration and Mobility

• The EU remains Africa’s largest trading partner and top investor

• Discussions on expanding trade, investment, and green and digital transitions

• Cooperation on migration management, legal pathways, youth mobility and education

• Over 30,000 African students have already benefited from EU-funded mobility programmes since 2022

A joint declaration is expected at the closing of the Summit.
