A Meditative Story: “Walking in His Light”

Wellbeing walks with the Ramblers!

An article by sister Sofonie Dala

Happy Sabbath, brothers and sisters!
May the mercy and peace of our Lord be upon you this holy day. As we gather our hearts to rest and reflect, let us remember the beauty and rhythm that God set for us from the beginning of creation.

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.” — Genesis 2:2

God gave us a divine pattern — six days to labor, and one to rest, to pause, to reconnect. The Sabbath is not only a command but also a gift — a day to slow down and to be present with Him and with His creation.

This past Thursday, 24 July, I had the joy of joining a wellbeing walk with the Ramblers. We strolled for an hour through God’s masterpiece — nature. The air was gentle, the greenery soothing, the lake still and serene like a mirror of heaven. Birds sang hymns of praise as we walked in a quiet row, strangers becoming companions, laughter weaving through the trees like sunlight through the branches.

“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” — Mark 6:31

Jesus Himself invited His disciples to withdraw from the noise, to rest in solitude. In walking, we follow His steps — just as Jesus and Moses often walked, long journeys on foot, under open skies, in communion with the Father.

After our walk, we gathered in the local library — a haven of rest and knowledge. We shared refreshments, soft words, and silent gratitude.

As I walked, I meditated on the verse:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

With each step, I felt this promise.
A lamp lights the next step — just enough for now. His Word guided my thoughts and my breath.
A light on the path — casting hope into the future. His presence revealed the deeper direction of my journey.

This walk reminded me that wellbeing is not separate from spirituality — it is deeply intertwined. To care for our bodies, to step into creation, to rest and breathe and notice — these are sacred acts.

And in doing so, we align not only with Scripture, but also with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that call us to live harmoniously with ourselves, each other, and the Earth:

🌱 SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing: Promoting physical and mental wellness through community and nature.
🌿 SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Creating inclusive spaces where people can walk, connect, and thrive.
🌎 SDG 13 – Climate Action: By choosing footpaths over cars, we tread gently on the Earth.
🕊️ SDG 15 – Life on Land: Valuing and protecting green spaces as sacred parts of our environment.

So I invite you, friends and family in Christ:
Consider joining a wellbeing walk. Walk with intention. Breathe in the peace of God’s creation. Feel His nearness in the wind, His joy in the sunlight, His voice in the stillness.

Whether you walk alone or in a group, let your steps be prayers.
Let your journey be lit by His Word.
And may your soul find rest — not only today, but in every sacred pause.

Shabbat Shalom.
