Today – Capturing Nature Through My Lens | World Space Week Reflections

Finding Earth’s Magic During a Week Dedicated to the Stars

Every year, from the 4th to the 7th of October, the world joins together to celebrate World Space Week—a time to reflect on our achievements in space and science, and to look up with wonder at the universe. But sometimes, the most meaningful experiences aren’t in the stars—they’re right here at our feet.

Today, on October 7, 2024, I was in York, continuing my studies. The day started as usual, with a class from 1 PM to 3 PM. But it’s what happened afterward that left a lasting impression.

While the World Looked Up, I Looked Around

After class, I took a walk around Campus West, letting nature guide my steps. With my phone in hand, I began capturing the peaceful beauty surrounding me:
🦆 Ducks gliding calmly across the lake
🌸 Gardens alive with color and bloom
🌿 Quiet paths and shimmering water
🐇 And the sweetest surprise — small rabbits darting in and out of the hedgerows, shy but curious

It felt like nature was putting on a quiet little show just for me. In a week dedicated to exploring outer space, I was reminded of the wonders of our own world — of the simple, serene beauty found in a single afternoon walk.

Now,  I look back with gratitude. What will happen One year later? Will those images still bring me peace and joy? They remind me that we don’t always need rockets or telescopes to feel wonder — sometimes, a stroll through campus is enough.

And now I ask you:
What were you doing one year ago today?
Did your camera capture something unexpected or beautiful?
