The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were established in 2015 during the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit held in New York City. This initiative was a result of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted by all 193 United Nations Member States. The agenda comprises 17 goals aimed at addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals and are designed to be inclusive, ensuring that no one is left behind (United Nations, 2015). The adoption of the SDGs marks a significant commitment by countries to work collaboratively towards a sustainable future for all (United Nations Development Programme, 2017).
